Our greatest desire is making it back home to the couch or bed
Tasks seem easier
Ideas flow abundantly
Future plans are made
Progress is accomplished
So you had 8 hours of sleep and 3 cups of coffee and still you can't get out of your own way.
A lack of energy is the body’s way of telling you something is wrong, but sometimes you need a detective to find out what the message means.
MOST COMMON REASONS FOR FEELING SLUGGISH AND FATIGUED:
Insulin/Blood Sugar Imbalance
If you are like most Americans, your pancreas has been overworked for years and you may be experiencing abnormal sugar or insulin metabolism which triggers a downward spiral of sabotaging issues including fatigue (especially following high sugar meals), increased weight gain (especially belly fat), and unsteady emotional fluctuations.
SOLUTION: GET MOVING
Exercise is imperative on a DAILY basis to induce sweating and increase oxygen and burn up excess calories. But the greatest benefit is that blood sugar levels drop from exercise. Schedule time to get some activity after eating, especially after a large meal or excess sugars. No one is exempt from the NEED to exert themselves. If you have physical challenges that prevent you from walking, biking, swimming, jogging, kayaking, boxing, yoga, resistance training, Pilates, etc. then get creative with what you are able to do and move whatever body parts you can. Otherwise, pick an activity that you like, start slowly and get going. Find a friend to keep you accountable or a mobile phone app to record your progress. The life-changing benefits of this commitment will add more energy to your life than you can imagine, not to mention the sublime buzz of endorphins that make the world look rosy again.
For goodness sake - STOP drinking sugary sodas, and NEVER drink artificially sweetened drinks - EVER!! They have been PROVEN to make you GAIN weight and cause damage to the brain. If you must have soda, try one sweetened with flavored stevia, like the Zevia brand found in health food stores.
Eat more raw foods; fewer processed foods; and limit fruits (even though they are nutritious-they can spike blood sugar).
Limit saturated fats found in ALL animal proteins and dairy. This type of fat has been proven to block the proper function of insulin by hindering its ability to escort sugar from the blood into the muscle cell for energy.
Avoid fruit juices. The lack of fiber in the juice allows it to enter the blood stream WAY too fast and stimulates a spike in blood sugar and the release of the fat storage insulin hormone.
Pesticides, plastics, EMF's and food additives, just to name a few, can overload your body when not properly removed through the 4 channels of elimination (Respiration, Perspiration, Defecation, Urination). This toxicity can then trigger dysfunction in your energy producing glands like the thyroid and adrenals and lead to low energy or worse, cell damage.
SOLUTION: THE SOLUTION TO POLLUTION IS DILUTION.
Drink lots of filtered alkaline water. Work up to consuming 1 liter/quart for every 30lbs. of body weight (ex. 150lb. person should drink 5 liters per day).
Buy organic produce whenever possible (found in many grocery stores, wholesale warehouses, and all health food stores. See www.wellnaturallynow.com for the Dirty Dozen foods that should only be eaten organic.
Discontinue any supplements you are taking that contain artificial colors or sugar.
Use up or throw out any body care products that contain chemicals, fragrances, fluoride. Begin experimenting with organic/natural brands.
Seek out natural salons for formaldehyde free manicures and pedicures. Also look for more natural hair colorists.
Switch your laundry soaps and dryer sheets to chemical fee brands.
Do not use artificially room and automobile fresheners.
Keep you cell phone AND your cordless phones away from your head and out of your pockets whenever possible. They emit damaging electromagnetic frequencies. Use the speaker option or a corded headset.
Use an Earthing sheet on your bed and an Earthing Mat under your computer keyboard for grounding benefits.
Do not microwave in plastic.
Do not freeze plastic water bottles.
Do not clean with bleach or other harsh chemicals. These can be damaging primarily to the lungs and thyroid.
Do not drink chlorinated water. Buy a drinking water filter and a shower filter.
Limit swimming in heavily chlorinated pools.
Consider installing Full Spectrum light bulbs for heavily used work and home lights.
You may be suffering from poor sleep caused by too little melatonin production; an overstimulated nervous system; mineral deficiency; abnormal cortisol surges which raise energy at night rather than in the daytime; or just not enough hours with your head on the pillow. A 2013 study by The National Sleep Foundation, found, on average, Americans get only 6.5 hours of sleep on weeknights, but report needing 7.25 hours in order to function optimally.
Even your fat burning abilities are dependent on proper sleep. According to the authors of a study of 1,024 volunteers from the Wisconsin Sleep Cohort Study, too little sleep apparently alters your body's regulation of appetite-regulating hormones.
SOLUTION: LIGHTS OUT
Be sure to go to bed and get up at the same times every day to reap the proven advantages of regulating your circadian rhythm.
Get 2-3 hours of sleep before midnight. The hours you sleep prior to midnight are the most therapeutic. Going to bed too late, will deprive you of some of the restorative functions that non-REM sleep normally provides.
Darken your bedroom or wear an eye mask to assist the pineal gland in the production of melatonin.
Take supplemental melatonin or valerian root. Drink chamomile or other relaxing herbal teas.
Soak in an Epsom salt bath before bed and use a good quality lavender essential oil on your skin, or spritzer on your pillow.
Without consuming sufficient micronutrients (vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals), which come from plant foods, our nutrient levels never reach the optimal range. Mineral deficiencies (low electrolytes) can cause low or high blood pressure and inadequate adrenal function. But even more importantly, your body cannot make good quality blood when all it is feed are hamburgers and fries. We truly ARE what we eat. Your food is turned into either healthy oxygen rich blood or low quality anemic blood. This is probably the greatest cause of chronic low energy.
SOLUTION: GO GREEN
Eat a lot more mineral rich foods. Plant foods will serve you well. Consume at least one large salad per day. Load it up with lots of veggies and add sprouts to super charge the nutrient levels.
Try buying or making green juices (cucumber, celery, spinach, parsley, lemon, ginger). Avoid juicing high sugar veggies like carrots and beets.
For breakfast or snack start making a refreshing green smoothie. Blend (cucumber, avocado, spinach/kale/romaine, almond milk, unsweetened coconut milk or coconut water and a little mint flavoring or stevia to sweeten). Again limit or avoid high sugar fruits. Add the fresh juice of 1 non-sweet grapefruit or almond butter, if you like or
When we drive to work, sit at a desk, drive home and then watch TV, there is not much of an oxygen demand on the body. Not to mention, our breathing becomes even more restricted when stress levels are high. Many of us actually hold our breath without even noticing it.
Without alkalizing minerals, our fluids and tissues become overly acidic. This lack of base or alkalinity affects the proper function of red blood cells and causes them to stick together rather than repelling each other. Now the sticky blood cells are unable to carry optimal oxygen throughout the body, and you are set up for low energy and numerous other systemic problems.
Practice regular, mindful breathing to energize your brain and infuse your cells. Try to consciously focus on deep belly breathing throughout your day.
There are many effective breathing techniques, but this Is the sequence that I like
Inhale fast and hard through your nose.
Exhale completely with a burst of intensity through with an open mouth, as if you were punched in the stomach. You should almost wheeze from the expelling of breath.
Wait for as many seconds as you can to take your next breath.
And then repeat sequence again.
It's not a pretty sight, but this technique works great. And you will feel an instant surge of energy and the clearing of brain fog.
